Segment A of Mathematics 7 will begin with teaching students to identify real numbers, and then add, subtract, multiply, and divide real numbers. They will work with exponents, square roots, ratios and proportions, and practice following the Order of Operations. Next they will move on to understanding and using variables, writing and solving algebraic expressions, equations, and inequalities, and then graphing solutions to those inequalities on a number line. Students will work with data collection, display and analysis by identifying sample populations, sample types and potential bias, calculating measures of central tendency such as mean, median, mode and range, organizing data into various displays such as stem and leaf plots, bar graphs, line graphs and histograms, and organizing data into various displays such as stem and leaf plots, bar graphs, line graphs and histograms. The segment will conclude with making the connection between decimals, fractions and percentages, calculating percentages and values when percentages are known, identifying and calculating percent of increase or decrease, and applying percentage calculations to real-world situations.

In Segment B of Mathematics 7, students will identify points, lines, planes, angles and type of lines, polygons, types of triangles, and types of quadrilaterals. They will calculate slopes of lines, and identify types of transformations and symmetry. Students will calculate perimeter and area of rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids and circles, understand and use the Pythagorean Theorem, identify and calculate volume and surface area for prisms, cylinders, cones, pyramids and spheres. Next, students will identify experimental vs. theoretical probability, sample spaces, trials and outcomes, learn when to use Fundamental Counting Principal, Combinations or Permutations, identify the difference between independent and dependent events, and understand odds and how it compares to probability. Finally, students will solve multi-step equations and inequalities, identify and solve literal equations for one variable in terms of the other variables, and identify and solve systems of equations using the substitution method.
