Segment A of Earth Science teaches that the Earth is composed of a number of dynamic interacting systems which exchange matter and/or energy, and the Earth’s interior also has structure. Earth’s surface features and atmosphere are a dynamic system operating over different time periods. Students will learn that the hydrosphere contains all of the water on Earth, and that fossils and rocks can help scientists determine the planet’s time scale and the age of life forms.

Segment B of Earth Science teaches that humans have an impact on the Earth, including pollution of the air and water. The Earth is part of the solar system, which includes other planets and their moons, as well as the sun. Students will study the characteristics of many of these bodies as well.
